She started noticing her a few weeks into her weekly visits.
She wasn’t disruptive or anything, so Kiyoko hadn’t really noticed her presence until the second year girl dropped all of her bag’s contents onto the gym floor one afternoon during practice in an attempt to sneak out. The volleyball that had been served bounced on the gym floor as several pairs of eyes turned toward the sound, revealing a flustered, small girl crouched on the floor struggling to pick up several pens, pencils, and a rather large sketchbook.
“Ah, are you alright?” Daichi asked as he approached her. Kyoko followed, tilting her head slightly as she eyed the girl. She looked familiar; [H/L] [H/C] hair framed her features, and soft [E/C] eyes darted up toward the kind captain anxiously, her teeth poking out as she chewed on her bottom lip. It was kind of cute, Kiyoko noted. She was kind of cute. She seemed vaguely familiar, and Kiyoko resisted the urge to ask her for her name. Instead she stood back and watched Daichi help her pick up her things.
“I’m fine,” the girl whispered shyly as she smiled, accepting the pencils Daichi handed her. “Sorry to disturb.”
“It’s alright. You come here a lot, don’t you?” Sugawara asked from behind Daichi, a welcoming smile on his face. The girl blushed.
“Oh, you noticed…I was disruptive, wasn’t I?” She chewed her bottom lip again. Was that a habit of hers?
“No, no, not at all!” Daichi insisted.
“We just noticed you ‘cause you’re so cute!” Tanaka suddenly shouted, seeming to appear out of nowhere, with Noya ever faithfully by his side. Kiyoko sighed. Those boys were pathetic, honestly. “You’re so quiet, a true lady!”
“Uhh,” she said, a bit put off, and Kiyoko tried not to snicker. “I’m [L/N] [F/N], by the way!” she suddenly shouted, flustered, as if realizing her bad manners. “I--I just come by in between my last period and my club, is all!”
“Is it art club?” Sugawara asked as he picked up a piece of paper that had flown out of her sketchbook when it fell. He blinked and the girl paled, looking positively mortified. “Oh, this is--“
“G-GIVE THAT BACK, P-PLEASE!” she squealed, snatching the paper form Sugawara with face so red that Kiyoko was positive it reached her ears. “I--MY CLUB IS STARTING I MUST B-BID THEE FAREWELL!” Flustered and a bit confused, if her weird speech didn’t give that much away, the girl turned and stumbled off.
“’I must bid thee farewell’?” Noya snickered.
“Aww, she was cute!” Tanaka said. He gasped and spun to face Kiyoko, face suddenly stern and serious. “Not as beautiful as you, of course…”
“Alright, alright, back to practice, yeesh!” Daichi shouted, waving toward the court, where the first years stood watching curiously. At his voice they jumped and Hinata ran to grab the volleyball resting in the corner of the gym. Kiyoko adjusted her clipboard with another sigh and returned to her spot, but not before she heard Sugawara’s soft voice as he spoke gently to Daichi--
“I think that [L/N]-san has a crush on someone on the team.”
“Huh?”
“She drew them. I think she’ll be back.”
For some reason those words made Kiyoko sick to her stomach.
Sugawara was right. A few days later she was back, but this time Kiyoko took notice. She would glance toward her every now and then as the younger girl crouched forward, drawing intensely in her book, looking up every now and then. Every time she did, Kiyoko quickly looked away, hating the way her face felt warm every time it happened. She kept appearing, though some days she didn’t show up, and Kiyoko was embarrassed to admit she might have been aware of her. She wasn’t the only one however; Kiyoko noticed Daichi looking at her every now and then, and the thought that he may be as curious about her as Kiyoko was made her unusually irritated. It wasn’t like her, none of this was.
A few weeks into [F/N]’s visits, practice ended early and Kiyoko followed Daichi and Sugawara as they approached her in the bleachers while the rest of the team boisterously made their way to the locker rooms.
“[L/N]-san!” Daichi called. The girl jumped, startled, and looked up. To Kiyoko’s chagrin she flushed and smiled at the taller boy.
“H-Hello.”
“We were wondering if you wanted to come to our game next week,” Sugawara invited kindly. “Since you always come here…I mean, you seem to like volleyball.”
She clutched her sketchbook nervously. “Um…I--is that okay?” She peeked at Daichi and he grinned, nodding. Her smile made Kiyoko’s heart beat fast and it irritated her that it was directed towards Daichi, and not her.
“Then I’ll go!”
“Great!” Daichi said with another grin. “I’ll see you there, then!”
“S-Sure!”
Was this jealousy? Kiyoko wanted to intercept the smiles Daichi and [F/N] were sending each other, more than anything, and it was…really unlike her. She didn’t understand it. Thankfully Daichi took his leave, as did Sugawara, both waving as they walked off. But before Kiyoko could take the opportunity to speak to her alone for once, Tanaka appeared, all bright smiles. He was in his uniform and had his gym bag slung over his shoulder, eyes sparkling and excited, the usual Tanaka Expression when cute girls were involved.
“What’re you guys talking about over here? Girl stuff?”
Kiyoko rolled her eyes. [F/N] just smiled, shrugging sheepishly. “Ah, Sugawara-kun just invited me to your game next week.”
Tanaka lit up. “Oh! You’re going?” He bounded closer, cutting off Kiyoko from her line of sight. Her eyebrow twitched.
“Calm down, stop bothering her,” Kiyoko said calmly, grasping the back of Tanaka’s shirt. He wiggled with a whine and she released him.
“Aww, don’t be jealous!” he cooed and Kiyoko sighed. She sighed a lot around this brat, honestly. “Oh! [L/N]-san, I was wondering, why do you always come here?”
[F/N] flushed, fiddling with the corner of her sketchbook cover. “I uh…just…it’s relaxing. I like drawing here, I guess?”
“What do you draw? Can I see?” Tanaka reached for the sketchbook and [F/N] was too stunned to avoid it. Kiyoko opened her mouth to tell him to knock it off but remembered Sugawara’s words -- the fact that [F/N] drew her crush, the reason she always came here -- and she found it hard to choke out any actual words. She cleared her throat instead, but Tanaka ignored her and flipped open the book. Kiyoko tried not to inch closer and peek over his shoulder, as much as she wanted to, and just stayed where she was. [F/N] was covering her face with her hands, her ears dark red, and it was absolutely adorable.
Maybe she…maybe she liked this girl.
Maybe she should actually talk to her.
Maybe she should stop being jealous of everyone who even talks to her and strike up a conversation herself. Yeah, okay, sounds good. She might be rejected because Tanaka was flipping through her sketchbook looking confused, and she knew the pages were filled with one person--probably Daichi, it was definitely--
“Why is this full of drawings of Shimizu-san?”

“Why must the day taunt me with its incredibly freezing weather?!”
“Well it is winter after all; you can’t expect it to be warm. Besides, even during the summer you still complain about how hot it is.”
You peered down beside you, a childish pout beginning to settle on your lips as you stuffed your frosty hands into your pockets of your jacket, “You know what Akaashi? Sometimes the world could do without your sass.” You huffed, watching as a teasing smile began to tug at Akaashi’s lips as you continued marching forward through the crowded sidewalk.

Life was like this one game we were all forced to play, where we must perpetually deal with bullshit may it be from chance, from the other players, or from ourselves. And although you have no way of stopping bullshit from ultimately coming, it was, however, possible to preemptively dictate who you'd get it from. That was right, and the most strategic choice among the three options was the latter, yourself.
Plus it was simple, all you had to do was divorce yourself from the frivolity of "living life. " It wasn't as if you spen
